Romania is in the thick of World War One, and seventeen-year-old Pavel isn’t eager to leave the family farm anytime soon. But when his brother enlists in the army and is murdered by a fellow officer, Pavel vows to avenge him. After smuggling himself into his brother’s regiment, deep in the Carpathian forests, he realizes not all is as it seems. He must unravel mysteries surrounding his commander, his brother, and a dark creature lurking in the woods. Time is against him as he works to stop a monster—before he turns into one himself.
